Ionly, a Spanish clean energy company headquartered in Valencia, has officially introduced its Ionly XYZ 5 kWh residential battery, a next-generation home energy storage system. Unveiled at the Solar & Storage Live Dubai Congress, the product is poised to transform the residential solar battery market by emphasizing local manufacturing and reducing reliance on Asian supply chains, particularly from China.
What sets the Ionly XYZ 5 kWh apart is its commitment to European sourcing. Over 90% of the components used in its production are manufactured in Europe, with a significant portion of its electronic systems developed directly in Valencia, Spain.
This also incorporates all electromechanical components such as the battery management system (BMS), proprietary battery software (the brain of the system), electrical wiring, as well as the cooling systems. Safety components such as fuses, chargeable power supplies, thermal management systems, bus bars, as well as user interface electronics integrated within the system are procured from trusted European suppliers.
The Ionly XYZ 5 kWh is a feature-rich residential battery solution formulated for modern energy needs, which generally includes a nominal capacity of 5.43 kWh (106 Ah), functional energy up to 95% Depth of Discharge (DoD), a voltage range of 43.2 – 58.4?V, with a nominal charge current of 50 A and a nominal discharge current of 100 A.
The weight of the battery comprises 42 kg, and the dimensions are 710 mm x 710 mm x 130 mm, highlighting an IP31 solid ingress protection rating for indoor residential use. The producer guarantees 6,000 cycles or 10 years (80% State of Health) under ideal conditions. This makes it perfect for residential applications, particularly for storing excess solar power generated during the day.
The targeted price of the battery is set at approximately USD 2,225.3 (EUR 1,900), strategically placing it between low-cost Chinese solar batteries and premium energy storage brands, making it a cost-effective and locally reliable solution. This unit is designed for the storage of surplus solar energy produced during the day, ideal for residential solar users seeking energy independence and reduced electricity costs.
Commercial availability is planned for September 2025, with a targeted initial production capacity of 500 units per month. Currently, the company is looking to raise USD 2.3 million (EUR 2.0 million) to enable scaling of annual production to 18,000 batteries. To advance its development strategy, Ionly is seeking foreign investment opportunities in the photovoltaic and renewable energy markets.
